22 Ottobre 2011. Tatopani (1200 m) – Ghorepani (2860 m) - 12 km. Undicesimo giorno. Lasciato l'hotel, prima di affrontare il forte dislivello odierno, 1850 metri di salita, facciamo una visitina alle acque termali del luogo, due pozze dove alcuni coraggiosi – sono le sette e mezzo di mattina e la temperatura esterna non è delle più invitanti – sono in acqua fino al collo. Altri sono appena usciti e si asciugano. La bianca piramide del Nilgiri Sud (6839 m), splendente nella prima luce del sole, sbuca svettando nel cielo. Il primo tratto, subito dopo aver superato il Kali Gandaki su di un ponte sospeso, è alquanto ripido e tutto su interminabili scalinate di pietra. Poi il percorso prosegue con una moderata salita e qualche breve discesa, giusto per riprendere il fiato. Il paesaggio è gradevole e dolce. È anche la mattinata delle arance (suntala in nepalese). Incontriamo di frequente bambini che, ai lati del sentiero, le vendono agli escursionisti di passaggio. Le acquisto volentieri per 20 rupie l'una (circa 20 centesimi); sono piccole ma succose e saporite. A Chitre un improvviso acquazzone rompe l'idillio e ci costringe a trovare riparo sotto la tettoia di un lodge. Ne approfittiamo per sorseggiare del the caldo, seduti attorno ad un grande tavolo, mentre ammiriamo il panorama. Il tratto terminale è ancora su ripide scalinate di pietra e Ghorepani si trova su di un crinale immerso in una grande foresta. Troviamo alloggio presso il Green View Lodge & Restaurant.

October 22, 2011. Tatopani (1200 m) – Ghorepani (2860 m) - 12 km. Day eleven. After leaving the lodge, we call in at the hot spring for which Tatopani is mainly famous. There are two pools where a few courageous locals – it is half past seven in the morning and the temperature is not an invitation properly – are bathing. Some others have just come out of the pools and are drying their bodies. The white pyramid of Nilgiri South (6839 m) towers over the valley and shines in the morning sun. The trail follows the Kali Gandaki river for a while and, after a suspension bridge, it climbs steeply upwards on endless stone staircases as far as the small Hindu village of Ghara. The landscape is pleasant and gentle. We often meet children selling suntala (oranges in Nepali). I buy some for 20 rupees each. Juicy and sweet. In Chitre a sudden heavy shower makes us take cover, which gives us the chance for a rest and a nice hot tea. The final part of the trail leads to a clearing in the forest where, on a ridge, lies Ghorepani. Overnight stay at the Green View Lodge & Restaurant.
