23 Ottobre 2011. Ghorepani (2860 m) – Chuile (2245 m) - 12 km. Dodicesimo giorno. È piacevole restare a letto mentre gli amici si alzano alle quattro per andare ad ammirare il sole che sorge sull'Annapurna e sul Dhaulagiri da Poon Hill. Ho tutto il tempo per alzarmi tranquillamente alle sei e mezza e prepararmi per la nuova giornata. Lasciamo Ghorepani alle 08:15. Il programma è leggermente cambiato perchè ci fermeremo prima di Chomrong, il punto tappa previsto. Ci muoviamo interamente in una estesa foresta di rododendri, alberi enormi ricoperti di muschi e licheni che, con il sole tra le fronde, formano giochi di luci ed ombre. Il sentiero sale fino ai 3180 metri di Ban Thanti, un piccolo bazar con lodge per poi scendere verso Liui Kharka, lungo una profonda gola. Innumerevoli gli scalini, irregolari e sconnessi, a volte terribilmente scivolosi per la forte umidità della foresta. Eccezionale la vista sul Machhapuchhre dal villaggio di Tadapani. Arriviamo a Chuile nel primo pomeriggio. Cena e pernottamento presso il Mountain Discovery Lodge: isolato, al limitare della foresta, è l'unico segno di vita della zona. Davanti c'è una grande prato dove, seduto attorno ad un tavolo, scrivo queste note e la vista può spaziare oltre il fiume che scorre nel fondo valle ed indugiare lungamente sul versante opposto. Le camere si trovano in un lungo edifico, staccato dalla cucina, abbellito da alcuni rosai in fiore.

October 23, 2011. Ghorepani (2860 m) – Chuile (2245 m) - 12 km. Day twelve. Staying in bed is nice while the others get up at four o'clock in the morning to watch the sun rise over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massifs from Poon Hill. I have got plenty of time to get up later and get ready for a new day. We leave Ghorepani at about eight. The schedule has slightly changed because we will stop off before Chomrong. We walk through a wide rhododendron forest where the sunlight plays amid huge trees festooned with lichen. The trail reaches Ban Thanti, 3180 metres high, a small bazaar selling souvenirs, and then it drops from here into a deep gorge. You have to take great care while descending the uneven stairs, awfully wet and slippery with the high humidity of the place. The sudden view of Machhapuchhre, or the “fish-tail” mountain, emerging from a cloak of clouds, leaves you literally astonished. We get to Chuile early in the afternoon. Overnight stay at the Mountain Discovery Lodge, located in a clearing of the forest. No sign of life around. There is a vast meadow where, sitting at a table, I write these notes on my Moleskine. My eyes can sweep beyond the river flowing in the floor valley and linger on the hillside ahead. All the bedrooms are in a low building, detached from the lodge, lined with rosebushes in bloom.
